Mike Scott with his
Club Northwest women's harrier squad that
won the national title at the 1996 USA
Cross Country Championships.
Once upon a time a long, long time ago, I was a runner. I wasn't
half-bad actually. But then grad school got in the way and I stopped
training. To keep myself busy, I started directing events and coaching
athletes. Now I just can't seem to stop!
This site maintains links (see
left) to many of the projects that I am currently involved with or have been
working on over the last couple of years.
Currently, I am serving as the Chairman for USA Track & Field's Cross Country Council. I have also served as Club
Coordinator for Team USA Distance Running as well as coordinating the CanAm High
Performance Distance Circuit in New England and eastern Canada and directing the New England
Women's Intercollegiate indoor, outdoor, and cross country championships.
In 1999 alone, I directed the
USA Cross Country Championships in Tacoma (Wa), served as technical director for
the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships in Boise (Id) and for the
NCAA Division I West Region Cross Country Championships in Portland (Or), and coordinated the CanAm Circuit.
In 2000 I traveled to Portugal
as the coach for the USA Junior (under 20) National Team competing at the IAAF
World Cross Country Championships, served as Technical Liaison at the NCAA D-1
Track Championships at Duke, announced the USA Winter Cross Country
Championships, as well as continued my work with the CanAm Circuit and USATF's
cross country subcommittee and coached several elite athletes.
In 2001 I again announced the
USA Winter Cross Country Championships and traveled to the IAAF World Cross
Country Championships in Oostende, Belguim. I was also at the NCAA D-1 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the NCAA D-1 Cross Country Championships, the USATF Outdoor Championships, the USA Fall Cross Country Championships, the CanAm Circuit, and numerous other meets across North America.
In 2002 I again announced to the USA Winter
Cross Country Championships (Vancouver, WA) and attended the IAAF World Cross Country Championships (Dublin, Ireland), NCAA Cross Country (Terre Haute, IN) championships, USATF Outdoor Championships (Palo Alto, CA), CanAm Circuit, the USA Fall Cross Country Championships (Sacramento), and directed the New England Women's Intercollegiate Championships.
In 2003, I plan to be at the USA Cross Country Championships (Houston, TX), the IAAF World Cross Country Championships (Lausanne, Switzerland), NCAA Cross Country Championships (Waterloo, IA), USATF Outdoor Championships (Palo Alto, CA), the CanAm Circuit, the USA Club Cross Country Championships (Greensboro), and to direct the New England Women's Intercollegiate Championships,
For my paying job, I am an
academic advisor for student-athletes at the University of Rhode Island in
Kingston (RI) where I work with athletes from the football, track
& field/cross country, and gymnastics teams. Before relocating to the
nation's smallest state, I coordinated tutorial support for student-athletes at
the University of Washington in Seattle (Wa).
If you get really bored, you can
always check out Mike's resume.
